Howdy All,

Welcome to our guestbook! Please leave us your comments as
to how you liked our site, and what things we can do to make
it better and more useful to you.

Dean and I have spent many hours over the last few years to
try and put together a website dedicated to Richmond
genealogy that is interesting, informative, and helpful. We
still have a lot more projects to finish (is genealogy ever
really done?), but we feel that we've made a good start. Let
us know what you think!

Cheers,

Todd Richmond

I find your website very interesting. My mother's
maiden name is Richmond. She was born in 1931 to Delphia
Caloma Bragg and Rufus Blane Richmond b. 5/3/1890 in Summers
Co. WV. Blane was the son of Rachel Elizabeth Meadows and
John Alex Richmond b. 10/1855 in Greenbrier Co. VA/WV. John
Alex was the son of Nancy Bragg and John Thomas Richmond.
This is as far as I have been able to trace my Richmond
heritage at this time.

Keep up the nice work.

Patty

Butterer der 1852 von Deutschland nach Amerika ging. Seine
Ahnentafel reicht bis ins 15. Jahrhundert. Er stammt aus dem
Land BAden und Ort Obergrombach heute ein Stastteil von

as well as 3 brothers, no sisters. Are any relatives on this site?

A very enjoyable site. I am of the southern branch that was
in McNarry, Co., TN and then went to Dade and Lawrence Co., MO
about 1825. John Sherman Simms Richmond was my g-g-g-grandfather
and his son, John Bailey Richmod was my g-g-grandfather. My
g-grandfather was John B. Richmond, who married his cousin Mary
Elizabeth Richmond, resulting in one son Charlie Richmond, born
in 1875, my grandfather, who married Florence Kelty in California
about 1907. I would enjoy hearing from anyone any of this rings
a bell with. Alan S. Richmond

What an interesting site! Although they aren't on this site,
I have traced my Richmond ancestors back to William Richmond b.
1762 in Exeter, Rhode Island and married to Rachel Matteson.
Their son, Jerub Richmond, married Susanna Walker and they had
a son, Nathaniel Richmond, b. 1824 in Switzerland Co., Indiana.
Nathaniel married Sarah Ann Lewis and they had a son, Edward
James Richmond, born in Iowa, who was my great grandfather. The
family moved to Missouri, near Liberal and Edward married Dora
May Jack. Edward was an inventor and was killed in Kansas City
in 1906 during a bank robbery, while doing business concerning a
patent on a bailer. His daughter, Golden Nellie Richmond married
John Harrison Newby and they were my grandparents. Golden lived
to the age of 104, dying in 1995.

I have some genealogy pages that traces my family to a Roaldus
Musard De Richmond. My maiden name was Richmond and my roots were
from Missouri. Is there anyone connected to the Anthony Richmond
that left Madison County, NY area around 1875 and settled in Macon
County Missouri. That is my Richmond home base. My grandfather was
Herman Gale Richmond. Would be interesting to correspond with anyone
with Richmond Missouri roots. Just found this site and is quite
interesting.

Very informative site which brings together new research with
many things I have seen on the web over the years.

I believe that the J.B. Richmond book is available on microfilm at the
Colorado Historical Society (My father had it copied so that his children
could each have one).

I have stayed at Cove house in Ashton Keynes, visited Richmond Castle,
and usually spend time each summer in Little Compton, RI where there is
row of old Richmond headstones in the church yard (there also a private
Richmond grave site nearby on a side road that is hard to find). It is
also my understanding that efforts have been made to restore John Richmond's
stone in Tauton (I remember my father contributing toward the cause several
years ago).

Finally, I am a lonely proponent of the belief that Little Compton, RI's
name has some Richmond influence given that there is a hamlet named Little
Compton (where the Richmond family had property) near Ashton Keynes that
"looks and feels" like the town Rhode Island.

Thank you for all your hard work. I will tell others in my family about it.

 Hi Dean and Todd
For His own reasons our Lord has seen fit to gift me with un-imaginable
blessings: among which I consider being a descendant of the Richmond family
one of the grandest.
John Richmond and Elizabeth Nicholas are my 9th Great Grandparents.

Near the beginning of this very week I was contemplating asking one of my
third, Anderson, cousins for the loan of the ‘Richmond Genealogy’ book which
has been handed down through several Curtiss generations. My purpose was to
peruse the contents and consider the magnitude of copying it so that it could
be available on-line.

Then yesterday, Saturday 2/22/2003, I happened across your website. I can’t
describe my amazement. Except to contribute it to another blessing.

Could you enlighten me as to how far, what branches, you intend to pursue
your works?

I will gladly make any contributions that are in my own data files that might
make your efforts more complete.

I have a large file of Olin’s: (originating in Wales in the 1700s).
A not so large, 111 Curtiss names, many still Living.
Then I have a very large Royalty file going beyond Roaldus Musard.
Then I have a file that traces our Biblical roots to Adam and Eve, Joseph
and Mary.

All in all I have some 3000 + files.

Please allow me to offer my files for what ever benefit they may have.

Please allow me to thank you and those associated with you in this great
challenge. I congratulate your dedication and enthusiasm.

Best regards.
Cousin L. ‘Mark’ Curtiss Sr.

I have a small bowl made by Royal Winton (Grimwades)of
England, identified on the bottom as the "Richmond Castle".
The picture inside the bowl shows a majestic castle
overlooking an arched bridge and a few houses lining the
riverbank. The scene is in white and several shades of blue
and signed by the artist, P. Lloyd. I inherited the dish
from my grandfather Lloyd Johnston and believe he saved it
all these years because of a family connection either to the
artist or the Richmonds.
Does anyone know of a link between the Johnston family and
the Richmond Castle??? Thanks for any info!

Thank you folks for a very helpful project. More power to you! I am a
bit confused however. I clicked on Hannah Plympton in the name index and
she was NOT my Hannah Plympton b.7-27-1750, Sudbury, Mass.to Thomas and
Ruth Thompson Plympton of Sudbury. This Hannah Plympton married a distant
cousin, Levi Holden b. 1-12-1754, also of Sudbury. Their daughter Mary (Polly)
Holden married a Ward6 Richmond (Job5, Henry4, Lt.Joseph3, John2, John1,
and Henry). This Ward Richmond is a mystery man to us. We know that he was
born in Middleboro, Mass. One family source says that he was a music teacher
and bookbinder. The years from his birth until he married March 13, 1803, at
Old First Pres. Church, Newark, NJ, are a blank. Does anyone have a broader
field of information on this man? Emeline Holden Richmond, their daughter,
my gg grandmother, left Newark, NJ Aug. 14, 1826 with Presbyterian missionary
Rev. James Holmes and his wife Sarah Von Wagenon Holmes, crossed eight states
to reach the Tockshish Chickasaw Indian Mission 2 miles from the Indian town
of Pontotoc. She taught Indian children until the Indians were forced west.
I'd like to add my line to your Richmond lines. Thought that someone might
have wondered what had happened to this Richmond child. Keep on plugging!
What you all are doing is exciting!

It was quite interesting to come across this site & I am originally
from the Cook Islands. My linkage is through Charles Maiuu Richmond who
was married to my great grandmother Ritia Kiritai & they had 10 children
in which they have passed on & my grandmother is the only one left. To cut
is short, our family main in NZ are in the process of holding a FAMILY REUNION
which is a common practice for us, & to do that we are trying to get all family
names, dob, death, marriages compiled & believe me it is not an easy process
but exciting, seeing that this will be the first time for our family here to
do that. With the uncles, aunties, great grand cousins, great great grandchildren
there are about 1,000 of us here in NZ, Cook Islands & Australia. I read Kathy
Oborn's article it was quite interesting & there's more to come. I would love
to hear from Charles Maiuu Richmond's brothers & sisters great grandchildren,
11 of them & I feel that we have a lot to talk about. Once again thanks Kathy
for the article & also to Todd & partner for setting up this website. In our
language (Cook Islands - meitaki maata)

Who knows some of our family members in the States, France or elsewhere are
planning to travel to the Cook Islands, just let me know. It is one of the
best destination you could ever come across & you won't be disappointed.

I am about to become a grandmother, and my daughter is interested in family
names. I dragged out the information which qualified my mother and me for Colonial
Dames (John Richmond) and started reading a very poor photocopy of pages from "The
Richmond Family 1594-1896 and Pre-American Ancestors" by Joshua Bailey Richmond,
1897. Aha - I thought - perhaps I can find better information on the internet.
Jackpot!! Thank you so much. I feel that a future trip overseas will be to
England to see this part of my heritage abut which I had no previous knowledge.

not know. I am just starting to look into the family history and this site helps a
lot. I saw a site for a Richmond Saga Book listed by Tim Richmond at iuniverse.com
and went to their book web site. He had two listed and I have ordered both. The
second one is about Alan Rufus de Richmond and William the Conqueror. The author
e-mailed me and said that all the early family connections are listed at the end
of the book, if so it will be worth the price. Thanks again for the site.

researching my family history for more than 20 years. You guys have done an
outstanding job on your web site. I ran into your site doing a google search on
some research that I was doing and sure am happy that I did! I have been able
to trace my Scottish family to about 1570 but as most of us are aware there
appears to be a 200 to 250 year gap in directly tracing the Scottish branch back
to Richmond in Yorkshire. Lindseys and crawfords were probably Richmonds and
Ayrshire is our home turf. Would be happy to share information cousins.

 My GG-Grandmother was Martha Jane RICHMOND (b. 18-SEP-1866, d. 08-SEP-1936).
Her father was Nathaniel and her grandparents were Valentine RICHMOND
(b. 1802, d. AUG-1850) and Rachel FERGUSON (b. 1806, d. 23-JUL-1879).
I think Martha's mother was named Elizabeth, who was the widow of a
man named RAY, killed during the Civil War. I would love to trace her
story back or swap any information!

This week has been an amazing adventure. I was scrolling Confederate
Soldiers in Louisianna. I noticed a name Richmond with an e-mail contact.
Mysteriously, it entered my mind to e-mail this person, because a name
Richmond was in my Family tree and I had never found a clue. I said,
you you have a Sallie Richmond? The e-mail came back, YES! And her
mother and Father and grand-mother's etc: I SHOOK! I could not believe
after year's of many of us looking and looking, I found my grand mother's
Family! My GreatGrand Father was Thomas Jamar married Sarah Richmond.
I understand we are descendents of Robert Richmond. Today, in amazement
again, I find this board, never before seen. Good Luck to all and contact
me if you need my info. Vicki

Nice page, especially with the Richmond book online. My mother was a Richmond from Bear Lake, Michigan (John Richmond - John Richmond - Edward Richmond - Nathaniel Richmond - Gideon Richmond - Elijah Richmond - Elisha Richmond - Tyler W. Richmond - Don W. Richmond - Carl Richmond) and since my grandma Richmond just died (she was the geneologist of the family) we ended up going through much of the geneology work, and it interested me, and eventually got to this page, and it was nice to find one of the books that we encountered at grandma's house online (well, most of it, anyway...

 Dear Cousins,
What a wonderful site was discovered by my Richmond cousin in Cal.! We are trying to find out when our Scottish ancestors Hugh Richmond of Stevenston and his wife Susan McMurran of Irvine left Scotland for Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. We are also wondering where they landed and where they lived before settling in Springhill. Can any of you help? (Hugh is listed in the 186l NS Census for Cumberland County.)

I have enjoyed your site tremendously. I have some relatives who are Richmond and have looked into your site for some genealogical help for them. I noted that in the comments section there was mention of some books about the Richmonds of the south and order one. I found it very interesting though I am not sure whether it is a true story or not. There was however a section in the back which contained Genealogical records which were very helpful. The author was Tim Richmond and I see that he has several more available which I think I will order.

Again thanks for all your hard work and the information that you have made available. It is a heaven send for the family.

The child is Hannah Sutliffe, b. 19 Dec 1665. Rumor has it that this line goes back to Druid kings and even Julius Caesar.....so, I'm curious. Thanks for a fun site.

I tried contacting her but guess her e-mail address has changed. The Chief of Police of Macon, MO was my Uncle Alphus Richmond, her grandfather was his brother, and my father Wade Richmond was also a brother. Their father was Herman Gale Richmond. Small world. So hopefully she reads this site again and contacts me. Great place, I need to frequent it a little more often.

I have really enjoyed watching the gradual evolution of your site over the years. It is a remarkable labor of love. Thanks!

I'm especially impressed with your efforts to scan in Joshua Bailey's book.

For those who are not fortunate enough to have an original copy of Joshua Bailey Richmond's genealogy, take a look at www.higginsonbooks.com. They offer a high quality hardbound copy which, although photocopied, is perfectly legible and a pleasure to use. It's currently listed at $95. My copy was considerably less expensive, so buy before they increase their rates again! They also carry several other books on the Richmond family, and thousands of other genealogies.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

John Richmond

{One Hundred & Seventy Two Million Six Hundred And
Fifty Four Thousand United State Dollars}
{(RE: TRANSFER OF ($172,654,000.00 USD}
{BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY/YOUR ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED}

Dear Sir/Madam!!

I sincerely ask for forgiveness for I know this may seem like a complete intrusion to your privacy but right about now this is my option of communication. This mail might come to you as a surprise and the temptation to ignore it as unserious could come into your mind; but please consider it a divine wish and accept it with a deep sense of humility.

I am aware that this is certainly an unconventional approach to starting a relationship. I am Mr. jacob zuma, the personal account officer to the great late diseased who has an account in one of the top banks here in South Africa. The account was opened in 2001 and he died in 2004 without a written or oral WILL and since 2004 nobody has operated on this account again hence the money is floating and if I do not remit this money out urgently it will be forfeited for nothing and Govt. of South Africa will confiscate the funds for their personal use which I personally don't want such incident to happen being that this is a great opportunity for me.

My contact is for you to please assist me to transfer the fund ($172,654,000.00 USD) One Hundred & Seventy Two Million Six Hundred And Fifty Four Thousand United State Dollars from a Cooperate Bank here in South Africa to an oversea account. First, I must solicit your strictest confidence in this transaction. This is by virtue of its nature as being utterly confidential. I am sure and have confidence of your ability and reliability to prosecute a transaction of this great magnitude. I solicit your assistance to enable us transfer the said amount into your safe account for onward investment.

You can either provide us with an existing account or to set up a new Bank account immediately to receive this money, even an empty a/c can serve to receive this money, as long as you will remain honest to me till the end of this important business trusting in you and believing that you will never let me down either now or in future because this business is my life. The owner of this account is a foreigner and no other person knows about this account or anything concerning it, the account has no other beneficiary and until his death he was the manager of the company. My investigation through the National immigration department & Ministries here proved to me as well that he was single as at the time of his entry into the Republic of South Africa. The amount in this account is USD ($172,654,000.00 USD) One Hundred & Seventy Two Million Six Hundred And Fifty Four Thousand United State Dollars only.

As a matter of fact, I have decided to transfer this fund abroad for investment. Your assistance as a foreigner is necessary because the management of the bank will welcome any foreigner who has correct information to this account which I will give to you immediately, if you are interested to do this business with me. There is no risk in this business. With my position and my personal contact with the manager of the bank, the money can be transferred to any account you can provide with assurance that this money will be intact pending our physical arrival in your country for sharing. We will start the first transfer with Fifty million [$50,000.000]. Upon successful transfer without any disappointment from your side, we shall re-apply for the payment of the remaining balance of $122,654,000.00 Million to your account. I am only contacting you as a foreigner because this money cannot be approved to a local person here, but can only be approved to any foreigner who has the correct information of the account, which I will provide for you. So you should provide me with your correct account details where you will like the fund to be transferred to, or you can set up a new account for the transfer even an empty account is ok. At the conclusion of the transfer you will take 45%, 6% will be for any expenses both parties incurred in the process of this business and the remaining 49% will be for me. As soon as I hear from you and upon your strong assurance that you will not let me down once the fund goes into your account I will then start the processing of the transfer of the fund to your account without further delay. If you are interested, please forward the following information as below:

{1} Your Name/company's name and full address,
{2} Bank Name:............
{3} Bank Address...
{4} Account No:.........
{5} Swift Code...{if any}
{6} Account Holder's Name: ..........
{7} Your telephone Nos.both Home, Office & Cell/Mobile and fax
Numbers...
{8} Your Occupation
{9} Your Valid ID

Upon the receipt of the above details, payment will be activated by the feeding of your data into payment system, followed by a signal that will be sent to the paying bank to remit funds into your nominated bank account within 5 official working days of receipt of the above information. Contact me urgently via email privately for further details: {jacob_1zu2006@yahoo.co.uk}

Thanks.

Best Regards
