By the tumbling waters of the River Swale Rise grey stone walls and castle keep Where crumbling grey walls could tell many a tale Of Knights in amour and maidens pale And dungeons dank and deep While from the battlements ghostly watchers keep Silent vigil over the cobbled street No more do tales of chivalry and knightly valour Ring through silent solar or ladies bower Crumbling grey walls are all that remain Of a once proud lords knightly domain |

MAN'S LIFE TIS BUT A FLEETING THING BE HE PAUPER OR BE HE KING
TO MOLD AND SHAPE THE EARTHEN SOUL
HE COMES IN LIKE THE MORNING MIST
BE HE VIKING STRONG OR PREACHER MILD
THAT MIST IT GROWS STRONG THEN WITHERS AWAY
ALAS --- TOO SOON GONE NER TO RETURN
NOW BENEATH HOLLOWED GROUND THEIR ASHES LAY
LEAST WE SHOULD THOUGHTLESSLY DISMISS
I DO TO YOU THIS SMALL WORK PRESENT |
